Stefania and Joel arrived in Kenya this morning and will be visiting all the Sopa Lodges in Kenya and Elewana’s AfroChic.
Here is the latest from them.
Every day we shall share with you the latest information about each property.
Today is Amboseli Sopa Lodge.
Distance from Nairobi Airport 225km, driving time 3 hrs on good tarmac roads with a few stretches still under construction.
There are a total of 83 rooms, 43 Doubles with 1 King sized bed and 40 twin rooms with 2 Queen sized beds. 6 of the twin rooms are interconnecting, 2 have wheelchair access and 18 can have upto 2 extra beds in them. Baby cots are available.
All the rooms have safes and private verandahs.
There are 3 bars, the main bar, Hemingway’s Bar which has a waterhole for great nighttime viewing and the pool bar.
There is a large free form pool approx 20 metres in length and a smaller childrens pool. If relaxing in the pool is not enough for you there is also a Sauna which has a supplement cost of US$10 for 30 minutes.
We enjoyed an afternoon game drive in Amboseli National Park which is 20kms (Approx 30mins) from the lodge. As well as the stunning views of Kilimanjaro we saw several large herds of elephants, Zebra, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Buffalo, Hyenas with cubs, Ostriches, Grant’s and Thompson’s Gazelle, Waterbucks, Hippos, Silver Backed Jackals and many birds including Cranes, Storks, Plovers, Hawks, Jacana and many more.
If you want to spend a full day in the park Amboseli Sopa Lodge has its own bush restaurant near the entrance to the park where you can have a hot buffet lunch with great views of Kilimanjaro.
If the game drive is not enough for you it is possible to take a nature walk from the lodge. The walks are taken by a local guide, start at 16h00, last approx 1-2hrs and cost US$10.
We have just finished a tasty buffet dinner in the restaurant and are now off to bed. Tomorrow, Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.
